Sport England tells Active universities projects were part of "mass participation legacy" of the London 2012 Games.
Sports Minister Hugh Robertson has stated that it will encourage students to continue playing sports after their training.
University of Hertfordshire was awarded with the highest amount of £ 359,579.
The University will use the money to get his students and those of the Royal Veterinary College and local colleges in a range of sports.
Sport England, said the active universities scheme will give tens of thousands of students to try the sport or to return to the old.
Sport England Chief Executive Jennie Price, said: "young people who still play sports when they leave the University is likely to stick with him for life, so this is a good investment in the future.
"These projects are selected because they really listened to what the students wanted, so we are sure they will succeed in increasing participation."
Amy Williams, who won a Gold Olympic medal in the women's skeleton, is among those who welcome the funding.
MS Williams is 400 m runner in school and to his sport while at bath University.It says: "the University is a great chance you will to try something new and in my case that something new is a skeleton.
"Sport is amazing way to make friends, receive are fun and can choose the skills that can help you get work when your student days are over".
Added Conservative MP Mr Robertson: "this funding for 41 different sports projects throughout the country is exactly what our Olympic legacy promise is about providing more opportunities for people to be included."
Funds are awarded to projects in England and covers a wide range of sports.
Projects include:
Multi-sport project in Birmingham University, will receive £ 65,275. The scheme, which aims to increase sports participation in the University by 15%, will include enforcement in Brum Cup and swim friends sessions. English Lacrosse Association will receive £ 300 000 euros in attempt to obtain an additional 6000 students, the game of Lacrosse. University of Brighton secured £ 182,602 for active 8 project, which will use loyalty cards reward students sports sessions. It includes eight sports including netball, squash and tennis. Students at the University of East London, which is near the Olympic Park, supported by £ 245,789 to try the sport 365 project. This will mean the students can try taster sessions in the Olympic and Paralympic sports. A joint project of the Keele University and the University of Staffordshire will receive £ 107,313. Hundreds of volunteers will be trained to the student to obtain a wide range of sports.
